A routine enquiry at a flagship hospital uncovers a spate of suspicious deaths. When clinical psychologist Dr Tony Hill (Robson Green) and DCI Carol Jordan (Hermione Norris) investigate, powerful figures seem determined to obstruct them. Hill’s unique insight combined with Jordan's determination lays bare a swamp of rivalry, resentment and intrigue that threatens to engulf them both.
Series III, Episode 2
A husband and wife are brutally murdered in their beds; a mother of two is murdered as she sleeps in the afternoon; the body of a prostitute is found in a local canal. As Tony and Carol piece together the clues it becomes clear that the murderer's methods match those of newly-released killer 'Mack The Knife' MacAdam (Daragh O'Malley) now reformed, with a new identity - and enrolled as a PhD pupil in Tony's class.
Series III Episode 4
A sniper is preying on the population of Bradfield and Carol needs Tony's help to analyse the killer's motives and predict his movements. But Tony has just been diagnosed with a life-threatening brain tumour affecting his speech, his imagination and his judgement. The harder Tony searches for a pattern, the more it eludes him. As innocent people die and the city descends into panic, Carol must drag Tony back from the brink of despair to end the gunman's rampage.

A perplexing series of murder/suicides leads Tony to suspect a secretive religious cult is at work - a cult whose members do not intend to sit and wait for the end of the world. With the help of DI Alex Fielding (Simone Lahbib) Dr Hill tries to penetrate the mysteries of a secretive, powerful and ruthless sect.
The bodies of two children are found, bearing markings that suggest they were murdered in some form of voodoo ritual. While Tony tries to identify the meaning and motive behind the grisly deaths, DI Fielding's team find themselves the target of malice and something that looks very much like black magic...
Examining the scene of the murder of an old woman living alone Tony sees the hallmarks of a killer who will strike again. When he does, subtle differences in the methods used lead Tony to suspect that not one but two killers are at work, each vying to out-do the other.
When the dismembered body of a Kurdish girl is found in a burned-out suitcase on a bleak hillside, her father pleads guilty, claiming it was an honour killing; but Tony deduces he is an innocent man who loved his daughter too much to let the world know the truth. Four more suitcases are dragged from a nearby lake, sending Tony and Alex in search of a methodical, sadistic and depraved hunter whose appetites go beyond mere murder.
